Curious about CESI? Allow me to introduce Hartford Healthcare’s Center for Education, Simulation, and Innovation (CESI) in Hartford, CT. We proudly stand as a global hub for simulation-based education, training, and the advancement of medical devices.
Spread across 53,000 square feet within the Hartford Hospital campus, CESI boasts an impressive array of facilities. This includes ten simulation rooms designed as replicas of acute clinical settings, where high fidelity manikins are utilized to educate clinicians on safe cognitive practices. Additionally, there is a spacious skills lab and robot room for practicing procedural psychomotor skills, two expansive cadaver labs with ten stations each, and three state-of-the-art operating rooms with a total of six stations for live tissue labs. To cater to educational needs, CESI also offers multiple classrooms accommodating up to 35 students and a 75-person amphitheater for larger gatherings.
The facility is fully equipped with cutting-edge audiovisual technology, allowing for interactive presentations, high-definition live streaming, and recording capabilities in every simulation room, skills lab, and classroom space. With 11 operating and procedural rooms, Hartford Hospital can livestream surgical procedures in real-time, facilitating bi-directional communication with healthcare providers.
Simulation Labs
Within CESI's state-of-the-art task training and simulation laboratory, healthcare professionals have a secure environment to enhance their cognitive and procedural abilities using advanced manikins and simulators. With a total of 10 specialized simulation rooms, including six individual spaces and a four-room patient unit complete with a nurse's station and isolation anteroom, each room is connected to its own control room equipped with a one-way mirror for effective case management and observation. These simulation rooms mirror real clinical settings, encompassing areas such as labor & delivery, resuscitation, ICU, trauma/emergency, and operating rooms.
The 1,200 square foot Skills Arcade at CESI is specifically designed for hands-on procedural training, covering a wide range of skills such as airway management, IV insertion, central line placement, ultrasound techniques, and cardio-pulmonary assessments.
Physicians have the opportunity to enhance their skills in the robotic training suite, where they can practice on advanced daVinci robotic system and endovascular simulators. This hands-on experience allows them to master the technology before applying it in real clinical scenarios.
Bioskills Labs
The Bioskills and Pre-Clinical labs at CESI are fully equipped to facilitate research studies, product development, and hands-on training. Featuring 16 stations, these labs utilize cadaveric and animated models in a fluoroscopy-enabled space that can be live-streamed globally.
In addition to the cutting-edge facilities, CESI offers spacious and comfortable locker rooms, on-site instrument processing, and comprehensive services for tissue sourcing, preparation, storage, and disposal.
CESI Staff and Services
With a dedicated team of 39 skilled professionals, CESI boasts a diverse staff including master-prepared nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, paramedics, anatomy/vet technicians, simulation technicians, and multimedia/AV specialists. Our experienced administrative team handles all event logistics, from managing contracts and hotel reservations to coordinating shuttles, catering, and event management.
